Tea & Talk at Henleaze

Published on April 1, 2019 under Surgery Groups

John Durant, RSVP West Surgery Coordinator, Deborah Cook “Care Coordinator” at Fallodon Way Medical Centre and a group of volunteers hold monthly “Tea & Talk” meetings for the elderly and isolated of Henleaze at the Eastfield Inn. This November they celebrate the fourth birthday of Tea and Talk.

Of the 30 guests, six are over 90 the rest over 80 and one will be 100 in January. Transport is arranged to and from T&T and each month there is a speaker followed by tea and cakes provided by the pub.

Recently there was such a meeting whereby 30 or so were entertained by Colin of the organisation Alive  His love of music was infectious with many of the “guests” , as they are known, singing and tapping along to the music. A talk by the Bridge Master of Clifton Suspension Bridge was well received, as was a talk on the “Year in the Life of a Shepherd”.

Twice a year there will be a trip to a place of interest and in December we have our Christmas lunch for the guests and volunteers.

With a waiting list for Tea & Talk and the doctors saying that this initiative does make a difference to the well-being of their patients, it appears the volunteers are doing something right!

A BIG Thank You from RSVP West !
