June publications of children’s imaginative poetry

Published on January 12, 2017 under Reading

RSVP has many volunteers in Bristol Primary schools helping pupils enjoy books and listening to them read. We thought our members would be interested in hearing about an initiative by ABLAZE which resulted in some amazingly imaginative poems.

Ablaze ran a Bristol Primary School Poetry Competition last March asking pupils to compose a poem about reading. The publication of the final book“A Celebration of Reading in Bristol’s Primary Schools was kindly sponsored by Intellect Books and the winners of each age category were announced at Ablaze’s Annual Celebration Event at The M Shed.

The entries to the competition were so impressive, that it was difficult to choose the winning poems to be included in the book. However, after several rounds of judging were completed, 71 successful poems were picked out.”

Below is the June publication of poems that have been generated from the imagination of the children:.

Winning Entry for the 7-9 years age group –

Land of Imagination by Avah Grace Quak-Winslow – Year 3, Bishop Road Primary School

Open a Book by Abraham Conteh – Year 3, Victoria Park Primary School

Ablaze ran another poetry competition this year and the theme was ‘Friendship’ – the poems received are absolutely lovely and will be published in a new book this June.

Examples of this year’s poetry entries will be published on this site in the coming months
